Metzger Family Scholarship
Harry and Jeanne Metzgers four daughters, Jan, Jo, Meg and Maddy, were stand-out athletes in a variety of sports at EHS back in the 70s and 80s. Jan, a 1976 grad, was a three-year letter winner on the first girls basketball team that began competition at Everett High School in 1973 and was coached by Delores Sutherland. Jan was a letter winner on the track team for four years. One of those years she qualified for state competition in the 100-yard dash. She also notes that she was a member of the powder-puff football team in 1976. Jan is a staff member at the Washington State University School of Pharmacy in Pullman. During her four years at EHS, Jo participated and lettered in four sportsvolleyball, basketball, track and softball. A 1977 EHS grad, she went to Western Washington University where she had an outstanding basketball career. Among her honors were: All-American team selection two times; Wade Trophy nominee, and The (Everett) Herald Woman of the Year in 1977. She was also named Female Athlete of the Century at WWU. Jo has been a coach and teacher at EHS since 1983, and is presently the schools athletic coordinator. Meg, a 1979 EHS graduate, was on the volleyball team for four years, and member of the basketball team for three years. On the track team she starred in the high jump and competed at the state level. She was a Walsh-Platt award winner. Meg received a basketball scholarship to Stanford and played from 79-83. In 1982 she was a leading scorer and MVP of the Norcal League. Meg, who lives in Bellingham, worked at Microsoft for almost 13 years in both marketing and sales. Maddy, who graduated in 1983, lettered for four years in both swimming and basketball, and captained both teams her senior year. The basketball team went to state all four years and came in second in state her senior year. She also competed at the state level in swimming and held many school records. While attending Stanford University she was on the water polo team which won a national championship her sophomore year. Maddy recently became executive director of the Greater Everett Community Foundation. Criteria
